Differing Mechanisms of New Particle Formation at Two Arctic Sites

چکیده

New particle formation in the Arctic atmosphere is an important source of aerosol particles. Understanding processes secondary crucial due to their significant impact on cloud properties and therefore amplification. We observed molecular new particles from low-volatility vapors at two sites with differing surroundings. In Svalbard, sulfuric acid (SA) methane sulfonic (MSA) contribute some extent condensation nuclei (CCN). This occurs via ion-induced nucleation SA NH3 subsequent growth by mainly MSA during springtime highly oxygenated organic molecules summertime. By contrast, ice-covered region around Villum, we driven iodic but its concentration was insufficient grow nucleated CCN sizes. Our results provide insight about sources precursors

Different Characteristics of New Particle Formation Events at Two Suburban Sites in Northern China

The formation of new atmospheric aerosol particles and their subsequent growth have been observed under different environmental conditions globally; such observations are few over northwest China. Here, we present an analysis of some case studies for new particle formation (NPF) events from two distinct suburban locations in northern China during May and June of two consecutive years, and provi...

New particle formation in the remote troposphere : A comparison of observations at various sites

Measurements show that new particles are formed by homogenous nucleation over a wide range of conditions in the remote troposphere. In our studies, large nucleation events are found exclusively in regions of enhanced sulfuric acid vapor (H2SO4g) concentrations, with maximum concentrations never exceeding 5x107 molecules cm '3. Although these data suggest that H2SO4g participated, comparisons be...

New particle formation in air mass transported between two measurement sites in Northern Finland

This study covers four years of aerosol number size distribution data from Pallas and Värriö sites 250 km apart from each other in Northern Finland and compares new particle formation events between these sites. In air masses of eastern origin almost all events were observed to start earlier at the eastern station Värriö, whereas in air masses of western origin most of the events were observed ...
